Xinhua Dictionary to be given to rural students

According to new policies from the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Education, students in rural Chinese primary and junior middle schools will be provided with a free Xinhua Dictionary by the government beginning the new semester after the winter vacation in 2013.

The Commercial Press, publisher of the dictionary, said that about 100 million dictionaries will be given to rural students in 2013. What’s more, the publisher will deliver roughly 20 million copies each year from 2014.

Since 2011, in order to solve the problem of lacking reference books in rural schools, the General Administration of Press and Publication of the People’s Republic of China launched a series of projects to deal with the problems.
