Suzhou Industrial Park

The project of Suzhou Industrial Park (hereinafter referred to as SIP) was approved by the State Council in February, 1994 and launched in May of the same year, with administrative area of 288 square kilometers, including the Sino-Singapore cooperation area of 80 square kilometers and registered population of 315,000 (including 610,000 permanent residents). The development objective of SIP is: to build a high-tech industrial park with international competitive edges and brandnew, modernized, informative, innovative and ecological international urban area.

As a key project of cooperation between the Chinese and the Singapore governments, the establishment and development of SIP has received great attention and concern from the central covernment and the State Council; in addition, China-Singapore Joint Steering Council has been set up to give direct guidance and concrete aid regarding the objective planning, management authorization and policy support, etc., so as to create the typical development environment of SIP of “More Characteristics and Beyond Characteristics”. For over ten years, SIP development has been keeping the robust momentum for rapid and sound development, with annual average growth rate of several key economic indicators exceeding 30% and overall development index ranking the second among all development areas at the national level.

The year of 2009 is the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China as well as the 15th anniversary of SIP. Under the guideline of China-Singapore cooperation, over the years, SIP has been adhering to the objective of building “one of the most competitive top-grade industrial parks in China” and developing “four demonstration bases of science, ecology, logistics and service outsourcing”, focusing on the major tasks of “ensuring growth, facilitating transformation, shaping brands and valuing the people’s livelihood”, expediting the implementation of the four programs of “manufacture upgrading, service multiplication, scientific bridging and ecological optimization” to spare no effort to maintain the stable and favorable economic growth, keep the growth rate of major economic indicators around 15%, and accelerate the formation of a high-tech industrial park with international competitive edges and brandnew, modernized, informative, innovative and ecological international urban area and become a new model for scientific development and a synonym of open-up and development.
