Starting February 10th, the Chinese will usher in their Lunar New Year. To celebrate the beginning of the coming Year of the Snake, Canada Post has issued a pair of special stamps.

The set of stamps is designed in a traditional Chinese style, and according to the designer, shows the spirit of the Water Snake. The domestic rate stamp features a red curved snake gliding over water, highlighting its flexibility and acuity.

And the yellow and jade green snake on the international issue coils into a figure eight, a symbolically lucky number in Chinese culture.

Since 1997, Canada Post has published a Chinese zodiac stamp set every year. It has become a very popular series. Earlier, the Royal Canadian Mint also released three 2013 Year of the Snake silver coins.
