Acting director, Chen Weiya, praised the Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and around 300 teachers and students from Taiwan Sports University who are contributing to the production.

"Turandot's" line up includes more than a thousand performers from the mainland and Taiwan, making it one of largest-ever cross-Straits art collaborations.

The production has retained the main cast and crew from its premiere at the Bird's Nest stadium in Beijing last year. Students from the Taiwan Sports University will play the roles of extras and dancers for the show.

270 students participated in the first rehearsal on Saturday night. All are full of anticipation and excitement.

A Taiwan Sports University student said, "I am looking forward to being a part of the grand show. It will be an unforgettable experience."

The Taiwan Sports University has supported the show by lending its stadium for the students to rehearse.

Chen Weiya, acting director of "Turandot", said, "When we arrived in Taiwan, we were very surprised to find that students had almost completed their rehearsals. They are smart and great team players who have learned from watching videos of the show."

Three hundred performers from the mainland have also arrived in Taiwan.

"Turandot" will be performed this Saturday and Sunday at the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium.
